This course provides the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain open space areas in parks and gardens. The course has been designed for horticulture practitioners and can be delivered and assessed in the workplace. Participants will learn the practical skills of plant selection and nutrition, pest and disease identification and control, weed control and occupational health and safety in a horticultural environment.
Our course delivery features a combination of on-campus and remote (online) learning. This flexibility allows our students to continue to study in a safe, guided and supported manner.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.
Fees:
As part of the scholarship program fees will be covered, however the amount/s may vary depending on the criteria set out in the terms and conditions. If you were enrolling in this course outside of the scholarship program the fees are indicative below and will vary depending on the units you select and your eligibility.
Your total course fee will typically include your tuition fee (table 1), any applicable consumables and/or material fees (table 2) and non-tuition fees such as student support fees (table 3).

There is a continuous demand for apprentices and tradespeople in this industry and graduates of this course will have a wide range of employment opportunities.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?
General horticulture skills will be acquired as part of this course. Graduates will have a sound understanding of:
- Plant identification
- Plant pest and disease control techniques
- Use of agricultural chemicals
- Control weeds methods
- Plant pruning,
- Plant establishment and maintenance practices
Irrigation and machinery topics will be covered as part of this course.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Parks and Gardens (AHC31016). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Graduates of this course can access pathways to a variety of other Certificate III and IV qualifications, as well as the Diploma of Horticulture (AHC50416).
