Short Courses

We run a series of short courses regularly to give you skill sets or qualifcations (licenses) across animal studies, electrical, welding, health and more.  We also offer a preparation course for people interested in joining the Police force.

 

  • Construction Induction (White Card)

    All people performing construction work in Victoria require proof that they have completed a general OHS construction induction course for the industry. This Bendigo TAFE course meets the requirement of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 and allows workers to be registered with WorkSafe. Upon successful completion you will be able to demonstrate personal awareness of OHS legislative requirements and the basic principles of risk management and prevention of injury and illness in the construction industry. The course cost includes the cost of application to WorkSafe for the issue of a Construction Induction Card.

    To abide with COVID requirements, students MUST bring their own face masks and pens, otherwise they cannot attend the class.

    A hi-visibility vest and hard hat will be supplied as part of the course and will remain with the student.

  • Establishing an Electrical Contracting Business

    Start date: Rolling enrolments
    Duration: Self Paced

    To become a registered electrical contractor in Victoria, you must complete this course and also be a qualified A grade or E class electrician. You must also have insurance as per current Energy Safe Victoria regulations. Please note: Electrical apprentices can complete the training course but are required to wait until they hold the A grade licence to apply for a contractor licence. This course is conducted off campus (flexibly) and you can enrol at any time throughout the year till the end of August . Assistance from a teacher is available when required. All assignments must be completed and submitted by the 15th October. Please refer to the Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) website before commencing this course.

  • D-Licence (Restricted Electrical Licence)

    **MINIMUM ENROLMENT NUMBERS REQUIRED TO PROCEED WITH CLASS**

    This course is designed for people who are required to carry out limited electrical maintenance in their workplace. The REL 2Disconnect/Reconnect Restricted Electrical Workers Licence is applicable to persons employed in a primary work function whereby there is a need to disconnect/reconnect electrical equipment that is incidental to their primary work function. Persons who are considering obtaining a Restricted Electrical Workers Licence should contact Energy Safe Victoria on 1800 815 721 to confirm the suitability of their primary work function prior to commencing this course.

    Duration of the course is conducted across a total 6 sessions, spanning up to 4 weeks with some study time in between each session which is conducted in your own time that does not require coming into campus. 

    By completing the two units successfully the candidate is eligible to sit the Energy Safe Victoria's REL 2 licensing assessment.

  • Testing and Tagging

    This program enables owners of approved testing and tagging devices or equipment to become competent to test and tag their own and other peoples electrical equipment. It enables holders to comply with the Australian Standard applying to the carrying out of mandatory routine testing and tagging of portable electrical items and leads.

    Ideal for people in the following situations: owner/operators of motels, hotels, caravan parks; testing of all domestic household appliances tradespeople; testing power tools and leads office administrators; testing computers and other office based electrical equipment, maintenance personnel at hospitals, aged care facilities, schools, and clubs; a range of domestic, office-based and light industrial electrical items. People wishing to set up as an electrical testing contractor. The program satisfies the Australian Standard for testing and tagging of electrical equipment and leads (AS/NZS 3760) requiring regular equipment testing and tagging.

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Licensed Electrical Workers

    Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) has recently introduced a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program for the electrical trade.

    It is now necessary for most electrical licence holders to attend a CPD training session, as a mandatory condition of their licence renewal.

    This course is for Licensed Electrical Workers (LEWs). This training needs to be completed within two years of your electrical licence renewal date.

    CPD is an exciting opportunity for all licence holders to enhance their skills and preserve the industry’s high levels of professionalism, bolstering the trade against rogue operators.

    The industry is technically complex and is rapidly changing, which requires electrical workers to stay up to date with the latest regulations and ongoing technological advancements.

  • Police Entrance Exam Preparation

    Make a difference every day in a role as a police officer or a protective services officer (PSO).

    Equip yourself with the confidence and skills needed to undertake your Victorian Police Entrance Exam and progress on your pathway to becoming a police officer or a protective services officer. Revise your skills and strategies in spelling, Maths, reasoning ability, English and writing, whilst at the same time, understanding the various sections within the exam itself and learning some strategies to help get you through.

    The course runs for 5 weeks ensuring that you're ready to take your exam sooner. This short course will enable you to learn skills and techniques to assist you to confidently undertake the Victorian Police Entrance Examination however it does not guarantee entry as you will need to meet other criteria specified by Victoria Police.

Frequently Asked questions - Short courses

Short courses are a cost and time effective way to help you gain new skills or try new things. 

Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.  However some courses have specific age requirements i.e. if applying for Responsible Serving of Alcohol, Gaming – Provide Responsible Gambling Services and Agent’s Representative Course applicants must be at least 18 years of age).

Some courses have eligibility and participant requirements. Please call us on 13TAFE or refer to the specific courses’ page online.  

Short courses may run for a couple of hours or six months depending on the type of program being offered. Please refer to the specific course for more information.

Bendigo TAFE accepts payment of fees by cash, EFTPOS, cheque or credit card. You can pay online, in person, over the phone or send payment in the mail. 

Please note Diners and AMEX cards are not accepted. Cheques are to be made payable to Bendigo TAFE. Remember to print your name, address, phone number and course on the back of the cheque.

If you change your mind and wish to cancel your enrolment, any cancellations made within five working days of your course commencing will incur a $40 administration fee. Once your courses commence, requests for refunds/transfers of fees will not be accepted.

Courses with low enrolments may be cancelled or postponed. If this happens, you will be contacted at least 48 hours before the course commences by SMS or email and given a full refund.
